In Robinhood SV of Suriname, a familiar face is back on the big stage in Concacaf competition.
The 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League will be Robinhood’s first appearance in the SCL, yet the club has a long history of Concacaf competition.
Robinhood appeared in 13 different editions of the Concacaf Champions Cup, reaching the final five times between 1972 and 1983, plus qualifying for the Final Round of the 1994 edition.
Now 25 years later, Robinhood is back after qualifying for the 2019 SCL via the Concacaf League Playoff. The Suriname club, which took home top honors in the 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield, defeated Real Hope of Haiti 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.
Leading the way is Stefano Rijssel, who was the leading scorer in the 2019 Shield with four goals and also scored three goals for the Suriname National Team during 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying.
Rijssel and all his Robinhood teammates will assuredly be motivated to show their quality and skill on the big stage of the SCL.
