Saprissa introduces Honduras’ Bengtson as new addition

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Honduras international Jerry Bengtson was officially introduced Wednesday as one of Saprissa’s three new signings for the 2017 Costa Rican Invierno.

The 30-year-old forward, who most recently played for Iran’s Zob Ahan, last appeared for the Catrachos in a 2-0 World Cup Qualifying loss to visiting Mexico on November 17, 2015.

With Honduras, Bengtson has competed in the FIFA World Cup (2014: 3 games/0 goals), the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2011: 5/3; 2015: 2/1) and the Olympic Games (2012: 4/3). He has also scored nine goals in 14 all-time World Cup qualifiers.

Bengtson has also played for Vida and Motagua (both Honduras), New England Revolution (USA), Belgrano (Argentina) and Persepolis (Iran).

In 2011, he netted twice in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) for Motagua.

Saprissa, which will play in the 2018 SCCL, also presented midfielder Lemark Hernandez and midfielder Luis Perez as new additions.
